DEL MAR
THOROUGHBRED CLUB

Del Mar is the world class thoroughbred horse-racing track that was the dream of actor & businessman Bing Crosby. Set on 350 acres, it has been the gem of the Southern California horse racing circuit ever since opening day in July, 1937. In its early years, because of the track's close proximity to the ocean, trainers used to train the horses by having them run in the surf.
Del Mar's Spanish Mission-style grandstand holds 14,000 fans, and allows the fan a full view of the one-mile oval track. Del Mar also has an underground tunnel to its infield, where families flock for picnics, and to get close-up views of the racing action. The race facilities are the finest in the country, and can stable more than 2,000 animals during the race season.
The summer race season runs July - September; the winter meet is held from mid-November until early December. In 2017, the Breeders Cup will be held at Del Mar November 3-4.
